So you're interested in being a counselor.

Who to contact?

So you're ready to be a counselor at Camps Leelanau and Kohahna. Cool. The first thing that you need to do is get in touch with Clark Shutt, Camp Leelanau Director or Katie Wallingford, Camp Kohahna Assistant Director. From either Katie or Clark you can ask questions about the hiring process, or more general questions regarding the daily life of a camp counselor. You can acquire an application from the links just below:

Counselor Application
Returning Counselor Application
Christian Science Reference
Personal Reference

How the application process works?

Once you have received the application you can begin filling it out. Along with the actual application you will find three reference forms. One needs to be filled out by a Christian Scientist (preferably a practitioner or Sunday School teacher), the second reference form should be filled out by somebody that you've come in contact with through school (i.e. a teacher or administrator), and the last reference is up to you. Once you have mailed your application in and we've received all three of your references, Clark or Katie will then contact you shortly thereafter about the possibility of being a counselor at camp for the upcoming summer. The big secret to the application process is to make sure that you get your paper work in as early as possible.

Why being a counselor at Camp Leelanau or Camp Kohahna is so great.

The camps are nestled on a gorgeous piece of property on the majestic shores of Lake Michigan. Camp Kohahna sits on a bluff that overlooks the spectacular, clear blue of Lake Michigan, while Camp Leelanau is neatly tucked into the rolling hills of dense forest, a perch from which the view of the lake is equally impressive. Our ideal location allows us to offer a great array of outdoor activities focused both on the water and in the woods. Our ample soccer field is host to numerous sporting events throughout the summer. When you combine the location of Camp Leelanau and Kohahna, with our dedication to excellence you have a special place. To be a counselor here means that for an entire summer you will be dedicated to unselfishly giving to children and glorifying God. There is no greater work in the world than working with kids and helping them be more confident, more unselfish, and more reliant on God and Christian Science. You too will find incredible personal growth after a summer at camp.

Fruitage from the Staff

"There is no love like the love you find at Camp Kohahna. It is pure, selfless, unconditional, and consistent. There is always a set of open arms, ready to supply that much needed hug on a difficult day. There is always a friend waiting to hear about your day and offer advice. No, there is definitely no limit to the love found at Kohahna."

"There are so many aspects of camp that I love. The Love starts when I wake up in the morning, to when I tuck my kids in at night. I cannot imagine not coming back to camp."

-Leelanau Counselor

"I can't get over the beauty here, and everyday I try to look around and take some more still frames. Whether I was going for an early morning run down Port Oneida Road, looking at the mist rising from the water at dips, watching the gorgeous sunset in the sky, gazing at the stars on time-off, or looking at the moon on the way down from council fire, I felt the beauty and power of God."

-Kohahna counselor

"This summer I rea liz ed how important it was to be honest, do my best, and be the person God was reflecting on a daily basis all while taking self out of the picture."
