Awards at Camp Leelanau for Boys
It has been a long-standing tradition at Camp Leelanau to recognize and award positive behavior and qualities. Awards such as the Green Hat, Red Neckerchief, and Silver L are presented to the Campers each week at Council Fire.
Two other awards that all Leelanau Campers are able to work towards all summer long are only announced at the end of the session at the Final Banquet.
Core Awards at Camp Leelanau for Boys
Core Camper – Swimming, Canoeing, Border Camp.
The fundamental, or Core, activities for a young man to learn at Camp Leelanau are Swimming, Canoeing, and Border Camp (camping craft). Throughout the summer, campers have the opportunity to sign up for any/all of these activities. If a camper earns their C, B, A, or Expert level in all three of these activities they are awarded their C, B, A, or Expert Core Camper Certificate at the end of session banquet. This certificate also attaches extra Stars to the award for the camper’s team.
Core Artisan – Silversmithing, RCA, Music, Drama, Improv, Ceramics, Blacksmithing, Swing Dance.
While all of these activities are not offered every week, there are plenty of opportunities for our campers to explore their artistic side while at camp and sign up for these activities. If a camper earns their C, B, A, or Expert level in any three of these activities they are awarded their C, B, A, or Expert Core Artisan Certificate at the end of session banquet. This certificate also attaches extra Stars to the award for the camper’s team.
For both of these awards, C is beginner level, B is intermediate level, A is advanced level, and Expert is ready to teach it next summer.
Also, a camper needs to achieve his C, B, A, or Expert level in ALL three of the activities, DURING that summer, to earn the certificate of that level.
