Week 1

Bugle Call

We are so excited to welcome all the campers home to Camp Kohahna! The first week has flown by and the Sky team can’t believe we only have two more weeks with our three-week campers.

Opening Day was full of reuniting with old friends and meeting brand new ones! We finished off the night right with Council Fire which was filled with excitement and laughter as the girls learned the names of everyone at camp, the morning activity options, and about the summer theme, Grit and Grace. Our new campers also learned what team they’re on. This session the Sand team gained seven more girls, while the Pine team gained six. The Sky team also gained five more awesome counselors. Ask your campers to sing the Kohahna Cheer when they get home!

The week has been so warm and sunny! On Monday we jumped right into Camp with dips and great Morning Activities! The afternoon was spent at Bar Lake doing the Swim Test. That evening was a blast as the campers played all different lawn games like Captain on Deck, Rock Paper Scissors Evolution, and Where’s My Chicken.

The first week is not complete without a classic game of… Bombardment!! Everyone played with joy and a sportsmanlike attitude. By the end of the night, Waukeena Sands won 2-0 and Wildwood Sands won 2-0. The last game was campers against the Sky Team, and the Sky’s brought their competitive spirit. Go Skys!

Wednesday was CABIN DAY! With cabin bonding as the goal, counselors planned so many great activities for their cabins to do here on camp. There were lots of creative photoshoots, a pirate scavenger hunt, cookie baking as a team building activity, a princess-themed day, and a rock climbing extravaganza. Every girl was so excited to share what they did when they gathered together after Cabin Day was over.

Thursday, several cabins were out on the water in the afternoon, canoeing and tubing. Others were having fun at camp doing a variety of activities like celebrating Kohahna’s 100th summer by doing different things 100 times (ie dipping, running around the Big Tree, singing the Kohahna cheer, etc.).

One cabin got to continue the fun by going on an overnight trip. After canoeing, they spent the night in the woods making dinner together, having fun around a fire, and roasting s’mores. That evening, the rest of Kohahna played a newer game called Camo Dodgeball. Camo Dodgeball is played in the Pine Forest and is an every woman for herself style of dodgeball in the woods. Lots of really great stealthing! We finished the night off with a refreshing dip in Lake Michigan under a beautiful sunset to end the day.

On Friday, the campers finished up the first week of Morning Activities by checking tasks off their level sheet and even passing levels. Saturday was a busy day full of big cabin clean up, songs, and learning more about our theme for the summer. After lunch we sang songs on the big blue bus and enjoyed the beautiful (and warmer) water of Bar Lake. Who doesn’t love a little beach, swim, and sun time?  The evening was another classic first week Evening Activity…. LIP SYNC. Cabins picked songs, choreographed dances, and chose costumes before they put on a show for the rest of Camp. TE killed it with their Troy Bolton impression!

The week was a whirlwind and we can’t believe it’s already over. This first week at Camp was truly unforgettable! We are already looking forward to what’s next with a whole new week of activities and fun coming up!
